Getting more women into tech and startups is always a topic of discussion on the tech blogs these days.  But I didn't realize how big of a topic this was until I was asked to moderate [Tech In Motion's "Women in Tech"](http://www.meetup.com/TechinmotionBoston/events/219191067/) panel at Microsoft's NERD center Tuesday night (before you jump down my throat for not realizing how big of a topic it is...I know it is. But in my career so far, I've worked at four companies, all with a good balance of men and women and 3/4 of my managers have been women).  Over 700 people RSVP'd and 350 showed up for an event that had no free food or free beer (two big draws for networking events).  That was eye opening.

![IMG_4139](https://470553.hs-sites.com/hs-fs/hubfs/IMG_4139.jpg?width=350&name=IMG_4139.jpg "IMG_4139")

When it comes to getting more women into tech, I'm not exactly sure what the solution is, and there doesn't seem to be a concrete plan out there -- but I can say for sure that events like these go a long way to help make a change and get more people talking.

On every episode of [Tech In Boston](http://techinboston.co/) I ask the guest what's something that we can be doing better in Boston and by far the two most common answers are 1) keep talent here in Boston and 2) get more women into tech.  Even though everyone mentions those two things, I've rarely seen a concrete plan or strategy to address either. It's hard. Startups are starving for talent.  What do you do if you get 10 resumes for an open role that you needed to fill about six months ago and all of the candidates are guys? Not make that hire? I'm not sure.  It's a hard topic without a real answer.

If you know of a company or an entrepeneur that really gets it and/or has a plan that's working, I'd love to talk to them about it on the podcast.'

Until then, more events like these.  They're great.  Especially when the guys show up to show their support.
