--- title: Doing More vs. Knowing More description: You don't need to know more than everyone else. You just need to be willing to try more than everyone else. --- # Tech In Boston Blog ## [Doing More vs. Knowing More](http://470553.hs-sites.com/blog/doing) [fa icon="calendar"] May 14, 2015 9:58:29 AM / by [Dave Gerhardt](http://470553.hs-sites.com/blog/author/dave-gerhardt) ![](https://470553.hs-sites.com/hs-fs/hub/470553/file-2318924860.jpg?width=35&name=file-2318924860.jpg) - [Tweet](https://twitter.com/share) I had this thought walking home the other night based on something HubSpot's CMO said to me. We were talking about how since launching HubSpot’s podcast, we’ve had a lot of people reach out asking for tips, tricks and advice for launching their podcasts (at least five companies have reached out asking for advice). Paraphrasing what he said to me: “This happens all the time anything we do something new.  It’s not that we know more about it than anyone else, it’s just that we were one of the first to try it.” I think too often we (I am especially guilty of this) don’t give enough credit to how much you can learn just by doing something — vs. thinking that you’ll never know as much or be able to speak as intelligently about something as one of the so-called experts. The best way to learn something is by doing it. And it helps when you are given freedom to fail when you try new things (in fact, it should be expected). You don't need to know more than everyone else. You just need to be willing to try more than everyone else.  Topics: [Ideas](http://470553.hs-sites.com/blog/topic/ideas) ![Dave Gerhardt](https://470553.hs-sites.com/hs-fs/hub/470553/file-2318924860.jpg?width=100&height=100&name=file-2318924860.jpg) #### Written by [Dave Gerhardt](http://470553.hs-sites.com/blog/author/dave-gerhardt) [[fa icon="twitter-square"]](https://twitter.com/davegerhardt) ### Never miss a new blog post ### Posts by Topic - [Startups (7)](http://470553.hs-sites.com/blog/topic/startups) - [Hiring (3)](http://470553.hs-sites.com/blog/topic/hiring) - [Marketing (3)](http://470553.hs-sites.com/blog/topic/marketing) - [Ideas (2)](http://470553.hs-sites.com/blog/topic/ideas) - [Account Management (1)](http://470553.hs-sites.com/blog/topic/account-management) - [HubSpot (1)](http://470553.hs-sites.com/blog/topic/hubspot) - [Podcast (1)](http://470553.hs-sites.com/blog/topic/podcast) [see all](http://470553.hs-sites.com/blog/doing#) ### Recent Posts #### More Links #### Contact Dave [fa icon="envelope"]  david.a.gerhardt at gmail Copyright 2014 | Designed with [fa icon="heart"] by [HubSpot](http://www.hubspot.com) [[fa icon="chevron-up"]](http://470553.hs-sites.com/blog/doing#)
